LIVERPOOL, SUNDAY — Liverpool has confirmed its status as the champion of the English League after defeating Tottenham Hotspur, 5-1, at Anfield Stadium, Liverpool, on Sunday (27/4/2025). With four matches remaining, the 82 points accumulated by the Reds are unattainable for Arsenal, which has only gathered 67 points.
In facing Spurs, Liverpool only needs a draw to secure their second title in the last five years. This follows the previous match where Arsenal was held to a 2-2 draw by Crystal Palace.
This is Liverpool's second title in the Premier League era, but it marks the 20th English League title, equaling the record held by Manchester United. Arne Slot becomes the 12th coach to lead his club to a Premier League title, as well as the first coach from the Netherlands to achieve this feat.
The slot lowered its best strength against the Spurs. Trent Alexander-Arnold started after recovering from injury. In the previous match, Alexander-Arnold was the decisive factor in the 1-0 victory over Leicester City after coming off the bench.
Before the game started, thousands of Liverpool fans had filled the streets around Anfield. They couldn't wait to party.

Playing aggressively, Anfield Stadium fell silent after Liverpool initially trailed due to a goal scored by their former player, Dominik Solanke, from a corner kick in the 12th minute. Solanke managed to gain the upper hand in the aerial duel, delivering a powerful header towards the goal that could not be anticipated by goalkeeper Alisson Becker.
Trailing by one goal, the Liverpool players launched an attack to equalize the score. Fortunately, the concerns of Liverpool supporters about delaying the title celebration did not last long. Four minutes after falling behind, Liverpool forward Luis Diaz successfully found the back of the Spurs' net.
Liverpool's joy was short-lived as the linesman raised his flag for offside. But after a VAR review of around two minutes, the home side were relieved as the goal was finally allowed to stand.
In the 20th minute, Liverpool broke through Spurs' goal again through Cody Gakpo. However, this time, the goal was disallowed for offside after a VAR review.

Anfield Stadium erupted with joy once again after, in the 24th minute, Alexis Mac Allister led the Reds to a comeback, taking the lead 2-1. A powerful left-footed shot from outside the penalty area could not be anticipated by Spurs' goalkeeper, Guglielmo Vicario.
Liverpool continued to attack to increase their lead. Meanwhile, Spurs focused more on counterattacks. Their striker, Solanke, became the player who posed the greatest threat to the home defense.
The efforts of the Liverpool players to extend their lead bore fruit in the 34th minute. Gakpo redeemed his disappointment after his earlier goal was disallowed by scoring with a right-footed shot from inside the penalty area that Vicario failed to block.

Liverpool's 3-1 lead over Spurs held until halftime. Entering the second half, despite having the advantage, Liverpool did not ease their attacks to add to their goal tally.
Several times, Mohamed Salah had opportunities to add to the score. However, he still failed to convert those chances into goals. It was only in the 63rd minute that Salah finally succeeded in extending the home team's lead with a left-footed shot.
The Spurs, whose focus is divided with the Europa League semifinal against Bodo/Glimt in four days, appeared to pose little threat to the home goal. They seemed reluctant to take risks with injuries as this match no longer affects their position in the league, which is already safe from relegation.

Spurs continue to face heavy pressure from Liverpool's attackers. This pressure bore fruit as just five minutes later, Liverpool added another goal. This time, the goal was the result of an own goal by Spurs defender, Destiny Udogie.
Several player substitutions were made by both coaches, but they did not change the course of the match. The score of 5-1 held until the referee blew the final whistle. Liverpool celebrated with their 20th English League title.
