Top Italian clubs, namely AC Milan, Napoli, Atalanta, Roma, and Juventus, are collectively active regarding the coaching position. Conte's stance has created a domino effect.

The dynamics of the news of the change of coaches in the ranks of the top clubs in the Italian Serie A League are heating up. Top clubs in Italy are whispering about their skippers. AC Milan is reported to be bringing back Massimiliano Allegri as the new coach. Meanwhile, Napoli, the defending champion, was able to convince Coach Antonio Conte to stay.
In the last 24 hours, at least two major news items have emerged from Italy. As reported by several Italian and European media outlets on Friday (30/5/2025) early morning WIB, Milan has dismissed its current coach, Sergio Conceicao, after six months in charge.
Milan is reported to be disappointed with the performance of the Portuguese coach, especially following the defeat to Bologna, 0-1, in the Coppa Italia final on Thursday (15/5/2025). The Supercoppa Italiana title delivered by Conceicao is considered insufficient as Milan could only finish 8th in Serie A and failed to secure a ticket to the UEFA Champions League for the upcoming season.
As a replacement, Milan approached Allegri. According to reports from Football-Italia, the former Juventus coach is said to have agreed to manage "I Rossoneri" with a two-season contract and a one-season extension option. The agreement will be officially announced soon.
Thus, if officially contracted, Allegri will return to Milan after 11 years of leaving the club. The coach, who has collected six Serie A championship trophies, was the coach of Milan from 2010 to 2014.

He even led Milan to win the scudetto (Serie A title) in his debut season at the club in 2010-2011. The title also became Allegri's first scudetto. He was fired from the club in January 2014, after being defeated by Sassuolo, 3-4 in Serie A.
Allegri was replaced by Clarence Seedorf due to Milan's performance being deemed to have declined at that time. Ultimately, Milan was still relegated from the fourth position, finishing in eighth place. The decline in Milan's performance at that time was closely related to financial issues. The most successful Italian club in Europe, with seven Champions League titles, had lost several key players, such as Thiago Silva and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

In his first period coaching Milan, Allegri achieved 91 wins, 49 draws, and 38 losses from a total of 178 matches. Although he once led Milan to victory in Serie A and the Italian Super Cup, Allegri was less popular in the eyes of the supporters. This is largely due to his pragmatic tactical approach that prioritizes defense. As a result, his team's style of play is considered passive and monotonous.
Allegri has become the primary choice for the new Milan coach after his target, Vincenzo Italiano, declined to move from Bologna. Italiano, who made history by leading Bologna to win the Coppa Italia for the first time in half a century, chose to continue his future at Bologna.
In addition to Allegri, Milan also considered Cesc Fabregas, the coach of Como 1907. Fabregas, as a young coach, is regarded as having successfully led the promoted club owned by the Djarum Group to remain in Serie A. He also emphasizes attractive offensive football. However, recently, Fabregas has reaffirmed his commitment to Como.

According to Susy Campanale, a journalist and observer of Italian football, the appointment of Allegri as the new coach indicates that Milan wants to return to the old paradigm, which is "risultatisti," meaning that victory is everything. Allegri's presence is expected to improve Milan's biggest weakness at present, which is defense. The club conceded 43 goals from 38 matches in Serie A during the 2024-2025 season.
Interestingly, Allegri was also targeted by Napoli to anticipate the departure of their coach, Antonio Conte. However, the latest news on Thursday (30/5) indicates that Conte has expressed his commitment to remain with the defending champion club.
This was stated by Conte after he was promised financial support from the club to recruit new top players in addition to midfielder Kevin De Bruyne, who was acquired for free from Manchester City. Previously, he had expressed disappointment to the Napoli management for releasing several star players, such as Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, during the winter season.
Conte was also promised by Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis that he would receive better training facilities. Previously, Conte had criticized the quality of the club's training facilities, which were believed to be a major factor in the numerous injuries among their players. Not only that, but Conte was also promised a salary increase.
"We have evaluated. The club and I apparently share the same vision because we are very serious people. There is a great enthusiasm to continue building a solid foundation for Napoli in the same direction," he stated subsequently.

De Laurentiis added that, together with Conte, Napoli is looking forward to the new season with greater ambitions. "The Coppa Italia, the new format of the UEFA Champions League, the Super Cup, and the Serie A title that we want to defend. Conte is a guarantee of trophies. I will provide whatever he wants to make Napoli stronger," he stated.
The news about Conte then created a domino effect. In addition to encouraging Milan to immediately recruit Allegri, Conte's attitude made Juve bite their fingers. The reason is, Conte is Juve's main target as a new coach. Conte was the one who laid the foundation for their revival and golden era in the 2010s, namely winning nine consecutive scudettos.
The first three titles during the era of Juventus' dominance were achieved under Conte. This golden era was then continued by Allegri, who secured five scudetti from 2015 to 2019. Allegri maintained Juventus' glory by utilizing the system and key players left by Conte.
Therefore, after failing to bring Conte back, Juve made maneuvers, including "hijacking" the senior coach, Gian Piero Gasperini. The 67-year-old coach is reported to be seeking a new challenge after nine years of coaching Atalanta and winning the Europa League last season.
However, the problem is that Gasperini has already been approached by AS Roma. Officials from the Italian capital club even met with Gasperini yesterday. AS Roma's Vice President Ryan Friedkin was also present at the meeting. However, Gasperini has not yet expressed his agreement to join Roma.
If Gasperini joins Roma, Juventus has two possibilities regarding the coach: to retain Igor Tudor or to appoint Roberto Mancini, the former coach of the Italian national team. Mancini, who was dismissed from the Saudi Arabian national team, was actually one of Juve's targets when they sacked Thiaggo Motta last March. However, Juve chose to appoint Tudor, who was easier to recruit.
Another major club, Inter Milan, is also shaken by news of a coaching change. Their coach, Simone Inzaghi, is reported to be in demand by clubs in the Saudi League. This news is expected to intensify after the Champions League final, which will see Inter face Paris Saint-Germain, takes place this weekend.
