The ambition of the Saudi Arabian football league to bring in star players is still ongoing. Liverpool player, Mohamed Salah, is their dream player. Salah, aside from his stardom, is considered a dream acquisition due to his personal background as an Arab and Middle Eastern player.
Saudi Arabia will do everything possible to acquire the 33-year-old player during the winter transfer window starting on January 1, 2026. This was revealed by a source from the Public Investment Fund (PIF) to AFP some time ago.
"We are following the developments regarding Salah and believe there is a possibility of a transfer, either through a loan or a purchase of his contract," said the source, referring to the issues between Salah and Liverpool.
Salah had a tense exchange with Coach Arne Slot after being benched in several recent English Premier League matches. Currently, the Egyptian player is strengthening the national team in the Africa Cup.
Nevertheless, there has been no direct communication between them and Liverpool. "There have been no negotiations or direct discussions with the club at this time, but there will be further steps at the appropriate moment," said an AFP source.

The arrival of Salah will make the Saudi Pro League even more star-studded, as Cristiano Ronaldo and several players from European clubs have previously played in the league. PIF holds 75 percent of the shares in the clubs of the Saudi Pro League, namely Al-Hilal, Al-Nassr, Al-Ahli, and Al-Ittihad.
" Salah is a footballer loved worldwide and will have a significant impact on the Saudi League both on and off the field," said a source from PIF.
Nevertheless, it is not only those clubs that are targeting the biggest football star from the Middle East. It has been reported that a club affiliated with a Saudi Arabian oil and gas company is very interested. Al-Qadsiah, owned by Aramco, has also expressed interest. Thus, it is not only clubs affiliated with PIF that desire Salah.
In an interview, Salah revealed that he is having issues with Slot. After the English Premier League match against Leeds United on December 7, Salah stated that he has been made a scapegoat for the problems currently affecting Liverpool and that he no longer has a relationship with Slot.
A few days later, Salah was excluded from the squad as Liverpool faced Inter Milan in the Champions League match. Salah has been a key player during Liverpool's golden era in recent years. He has contributed to two Premier League titles and one Champions League trophy, along with several other titles.

He extended his contract for two years in April 2025 and led Liverpool to dominate the English League. Salah scored 29 goals and provided 18 assists last season, but this season he has struggled to find his best form as Liverpool has faltered. He has only scored four goals in 13 English League matches this season.
The defending champion is now in fourth place, trailing 13 points behind Arsenal, who tops the standings. Before departing to strengthen the Egyptian national team in the Africa Cup of Nations, Salah hinted that the match against Brighton in the English Premier League could be his last game with "The Reds," concluding his legendary career in Merseyside after eight years.
Salah, who once played for Chelsea, was purchased by Liverpool from the Serie A club, AS Roma, in 2017. He has contributed 188 goals in 302 appearances for Liverpool.
