MALANG, KOMPAS - Heavy rain has caused flooding and landslides in several areas of East Java until Tuesday (25/11/2025). The public is urged to remain vigilant, especially when passing through mountainous areas that are prone to hydrometeorological disasters.
Data from the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Pasuruan City indicates that as of Tuesday afternoon, flooding is still affecting dozens of hamlets in three sub-districts of Pasuruan City. The Head of the BPBD of Pasuruan City, Sugeng Haryadi, stated that there are still 11 hamlets in 5 villages submerged in water with varying water levels, ranging from 10 to 45 centimeters. This has impacted 540 families.
The eleven hamlets are Bulu, Batoan, Gayam, Padangan, and Dungpasar in Tambakrejo Village, Kraton District; Kedungringin Tengah, Balongrejo, Kedungringin Utara, and Kedungringin Selatan in Kedungringin Village; as well as Kedungboto in Kedungboto Village, Beji District; and Tanjung Hamlet in Gempol Village, Gempol District.
Meanwhile, the flood in Dusun Duyo, Rujaksente, and Suko in Sukorejo Village, Pohjentrek District, has receded, leaving only mud behind. The affected hamlets mentioned are located in the Welang and Wrati River Basins. "That is the updated data as of 12:00 PM WIB. We will provide another update at 7:00 PM, and it is likely that many areas will have receded if it does not rain," said Sugeng.
The flood that occurred this time, Sugeng continued, was caused by the overflowing of the Welang and Wrati Rivers due to heavy rain on Monday (24/11/2025) afternoon. The flood also temporarily closed the main North Coast route in the Kraton District, but traffic access has now been reopened.

In Mojokerto Regency, a 70-meter high cliff collapsed, measuring 15 meters wide and 1.5 meters thick. The landslide, which occurred in the Kutukan area of Sendi within the Raden Soerjo Grand Forest Park (Tahura), temporarily blocked the alternative route between Batu and Mojokerto. The closure was implemented in both directions, from 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM, and continued on Tuesday morning for cleanup activities.
We urge the public to be careful when passing through the Pacet-Cangar route during the rainy season because landslides and fallen trees often occur.
Contacted separately, the Head of the Emergency and Logistics Division of the Mojokerto Regency BPBD, Abdul Khakim, urged the public intending to travel along the Cangar route, Batu City, to Pacet, Mojokerto, to remain vigilant during heavy rain and extreme weather. The condition of the Pacet-Cangar route is quite risky due to its winding and undulating nature.
Not only weather factors, but the condition of vehicles must also be optimal to traverse the route that cuts through the mountains. "We urge the community to be cautious when passing through the Pacet-Cangar route during rainy weather, as landslides and fallen trees frequently occur. Especially for vehicles, they must be thoroughly checked as brake failures also happen often," he stated.
During heavy rain, Khakim advised that it is better for the community to take a detour through Malang as the conditions are safer. The Mojokerto BPBD, along with related parties, will hold a coordination meeting to decide on the possibility of road closures during extreme weather in the future.
"The condition becomes unsafe particularly after rainfall. After it rains for 1-2 hours, it becomes very dangerous. Water seeps into the ground, causing the soil to become unstable and prone to landslides. The vulnerability after rainfall is due to the presence of cracks from the Gajah Mungkur point to Cangar," he stated.

The landslide on Monday afternoon marked at least the second similar disaster in the past year. Previously, a landslide in early April 2025 claimed 10 lives. The victims were passengers of a Toyota Innova minibus and a Daihatsu Gran Max pickup truck. Both vehicles were severely damaged and found at the bottom of a small river.
The two vehicles were trapped by landslide material originating from the cliff across the road, right next to the bend near the Coban Watu Ondo tourist attraction. The distance between the Innova and Gran Max was approximately 30 meters.
Meanwhile, flooding and landslides also occurred in Sumberngepoh Village, Lawang District, Malang Regency. Floodwaters inundated SMPN Darma Wirawan and SDN 1 Sumberngepoh to a height of 30 centimeters. Meanwhile, landslides took place in Dusun Barek RT 02, RW 05 and Dusun Krajan RT 03 RW 03. There were no casualties in this incident; the landslides only cut off the village road leading to the rice fields.
Previously, the Head of the Emergency and Logistics Division of the Malang Regency BPBD, Sadono Irawan, stated that there are several areas prone to hydrometeorological disasters in his region. The Malang Regency BPBD has mapped out areas at risk of hydrometeorological disasters during the rainy season.
For flooding, there are 16 sub-districts, including Pujon, Ngantang, Ampelgading, Sumbermanjing Wetan, and Ampelgading. Meanwhile, for landslides, there are 17 sub-districts, among them Kromengan, Wonosari, Ngajum, Ampelgading, and Ngantang. Additionally, strong winds and tornadoes affect 12 sub-districts, including Lawang, Singosari, Jabung, Sumberpucung, and Kepanjen.
