The journey back to one's hometown during the holiday season is often overshadowed by traffic congestion. Especially for travelers using private vehicles on toll roads, most are bound to consider the possibility of congestion. This is because, in recent years, traffic jams during peak travel periods have often been unavoidable.
The government has also prepared various traffic engineering to smooth the flow of homecoming. Several scenarios have been prepared, such as contraflow (against the flow), one way (one way), and odd-even will be implemented on several toll roads to prevent congestion. So, when and where will the traffic engineering be implemented?

The Head of the National Police Traffic Corps, Inspector General Agus Suryonugroho, stated in a written statement on Saturday (22/3/2024) that various traffic engineering measures are being designed to ensure smoother and safer travel for the public. However, the implementation of traffic engineering will be adjusted according to evolving circumstances.
First, contraflow will be implemented on the Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road from kilometer 40 to kilometer 70. The implementation will be carried out starting Thursday, March 27 at 14:00 until Saturday, March 29 at 24:00. As for Sunday, March 30, there will be no contraflow on the route. The implementation of contraflow will then continue on the same toll road section on Monday, March 31 at 11:00 until Tuesday, April 1 at 18:00.
Meanwhile, the one-way scheme is planned to be implemented starting from the Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road kilometer 70 to kilometer 414 on the Semarang-Batang Toll Road. The one-way scheme on these two lanes will be implemented on Thursday, March 27, 2025 at 14:00 to Saturday, March 29, 2025 at 24:00.
"If there is a peak homecoming flow, usually D-3 of Eid al-Fitr. We will do one way, it's called a national one way. We will do that," said Agus.

Meanwhile, the odd-even scheme is planned to be implemented on the Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road from kilometer 47 to the Semarang-Batang Toll Road at kilometer 414. The odd-even traffic arrangement will also be applied on the Tangerang-Merak Toll Road from kilometer 31 to kilometer 98. This policy will be in effect starting Thursday, March 27 at 2:00 PM until Sunday, March 30 at midnight.
Based on a number of traffic engineering, travelers need to anticipate the route taken so that they can stop at a rest area or a resting place. During contraflow, travelers who can access the rest area are only those on the initial route to Semarang.
Meanwhile, drivers who enter the contraflow lane cannot stop at the rest area. Because, drivers share the lane with people driving towards Jakarta.

Unlike travelers entering one way, they can stop at rest areas on the right side. One of the rest areas that needs to be tried is Rest Area Heritage KM 260B Banjaratma, Brebes.
The location was formerly a sugar factory established in 1908. However, in 2019, the cultural heritage site was transformed into a rest area due to its position right next to the toll road. There are nearly 200 food and souvenir stalls operated by micro, small, and medium enterprises.
"Rather than getting stuck in traffic, it’s better to recharge your energy first at our rest area. If coming from Jakarta, travelers can take the far-right lane during the implementation of the one-way system," said the President Director of PP Sinergi Banjaratma, Dina Yunanda.
