Fifty-two students from Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 1 Cianjur experienced food poisoning on Monday. It is suspected that they were poisoned after consuming free nutritious food.

BANDUNG, KOMPAS - A total of 52 students from Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 1 Cianjur in West Java have reportedly experienced poisoning, allegedly after consuming food from the Free Nutritious Meal program on Monday (21/4/2025). Most of the students are currently still receiving treatment at two local hospitals.
The Head of the Disease Prevention and Control Division of the West Java Health Office, Rochady Hendra Setia Wibawa, confirmed this information in Bandung on Tuesday (22/4/2025). He stated that the number of victims continues to rise, reaching 52 students according to the latest data.
As many as 52 victims who suffered from poisoning are receiving treatment at two hospitals, namely Sayang Cianjur Regional General Hospital and Bhayangkara Hospital. They are experiencing symptoms such as vomiting, dizziness, and diarrhea.
MAN 1 Cianjur is among the schools that have received the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) program in Cianjur Regency until early March 2025. There are 12 units of SPPG (Nutrition-Driving Educational Units) that have implemented MBG for 36,423 students in Cianjur.

"Data from the Cianjur District Health Office indicates that seven students who were receiving treatment at Sayang Cianjur Regional Hospital have returned home. This is because their conditions have improved," said Rochady.
"The Cianjur Health Office has sent food and vomit samples to the West Java Health Laboratory for examination. Currently, the MBG program at the school has been temporarily suspended," he stated.
Data from the Cianjur District Health Office, seven students who were undergoing treatment at the Sayang Cianjur Regional Hospital have returned home.
The Head of the Disease Prevention and Control Division of the Cianjur Health Office, Frida Laila Yahya, added that the majority of students from MAN 1 Cianjur experienced symptoms of poisoning such as dizziness, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea around 5:00 PM WIB.

"When they experienced symptoms of poisoning, they were immediately taken to the health center and referred to two hospitals by their relatives," added Frida.
Cianjur Regent Wahyu Ferdian personally visited the victims receiving treatment in the Emergency Room of Sayang Regional Hospital on Monday night. He also expressed his concern over the incident experienced by the victims.
Wahyu promptly instructed the relevant health facilities to coordinate with the school authorities. This effort aims to anticipate an increase in the number of victims experiencing poisoning.
"I have requested the school to conduct a census of the number of affected students. I am saddened and shocked that the children have to face this disaster," said Wahyu.
