Without Kylian Mbappe, Real Madrid still celebrated. Gonzalo Garcia became the guardian of "Los Blancos" ambitions to eliminate the threat of not winning a major trophy this season.

MIAMI, WEDNESDAY – A lethal header struck the Juventus goal. The goal scorer celebrated by spreading his arms wide. These two sequences of events brought smiles and nostalgia to the eyes of every loyal Real Madrid supporter watching the round of 16 match of the Club World Cup on Wednesday (2/7/2025 WIB) at Hard Rock Stadium, Miami, Florida.
The decisive moment of Real's 1-0 victory over Juve briefly awakened memories from nearly two decades ago. Supporters of "Los Blancos" were reminded of the playing style and goal celebration gestures of one of their legends, Raul Gonzalez. Of course, it was not Raul who annulled the decision to hang up his boots. The legacy of Raul is present in the figure of Gonzalo Garcia.
Garcia wore the number 30 jersey in the 2025 Club World Cup. He scored the winning goal for Real in the 54th minute. That header made Garcia the only Real player to beat Juventus goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio. The Italian goalkeeper performed brilliantly, making 10 saves.
The quantity of saves by Di Gregorio was equivalent to that of Al Hilal's goalkeeper, Yassine Bounou, when facing Manchester City on Tuesday (1/7/2025). The difference is that Di Gregorio recorded 10 anticipations of the opponent's on-target shots within 90 minutes, while Bounou played for 120 minutes, including two extra time periods.
Discussing Bounou, Garcia also became the first player to score a goal against the Moroccan goalkeeper of Al Hilal in the United States. This incident occurred during the opening match of the group stage, which ended in a 1-1 draw.

Overall, Garcia has scored three times in the 2025 Club World Cup. He became the top scorer for Real when the main striker, Kylian Mbappe, suffered digestive issues since undergoing his first training session in the United States.
Garcia, who is 21 years old, is the only forward with the status of a Real Madrid Castilla player. In fact, he is the third choice for the number nine position after Mbappe and Endrick.
The universe supports the players trained by the Real Academy to showcase their goal-scoring instincts in front of Xabi Alonso, the new coach of Real. Mbappe and Endrick faced fitness issues, thus they could only watch their teammates compete. Specifically for Mbappe, he had already appeared since the 68th minute in the match against Juve to replace Garcia.
“The Club World Cup was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for me,” Garcia said of his impressive performance in the US, as reported by Marca.
Garcia at least managed to answer Alonso's trust with a collection of three goals and an assist from four appearances in the Club World Cup. That made the entrenadornot forget to praise Garcia's abilities.

Alonso did not hold back, comparing Garcia to Raul, one of the best players developed by Los Blancos. "As usual, he did his job well," Alonso said briefly about Garcia's performance against Juve to DAZN.
Garcia is reluctant to be lulled into comparing Alonso to his idol and coach since breaking through to Castilla in the 2023-2024 season.
"For me, (Alonso's statement) is more than just pride. I had the opportunity to spend the last two seasons with him (Raul) as a coach, and that comparison is more than just a compliment," said Garcia, who scored 25 goals for Castilla in the Primera Federacion, the third tier of Spanish competition, in the 2024-2025 edition.
Playing under the guidance of Raul, who coached Castilla from 2019 until May 2025, Garcia developed into a sharp striker. His collection of 25 goals is a record for Castilla for the most goals in a single season. This record is similar to that of Mariano Diaz.
In addition to his legendary goal instincts, Garcia is also equipped with a posture that is almost similar to Raul, the scorer of 323 goals for Real. Garcia is 1.82 meters tall. Meanwhile, Raul is 1.8 meters tall.

Federico Valverde, midfielder and captain of Real, explained the main reason why Garcia was able to make an immediate impact with the Real squad at the 2025 Club World Cup.
"He is a talented player who has fought under the main team at Castilla. He has proven to fight with pride representing the emblem of this club," said Valverde.
Although he had previously defended Real at the end of the 2023-2024 season and contributed one goal in the 2024-2025 Copa del Rey, Garcia has only recently been consistently given playing opportunities since the kickoff in the United States.
Garcia also made a special impression on the new right-back, Trent Alexander-Arnold. This is because he is the first player to capitalize on an assist from Alexander-Arnold since donning the Los Blancos jersey.
On the other hand, Valverde once again demonstrated his vital role in Real's midfield. Battling alongside Arda Guler and Jude Bellingham made Real significantly superior to Juve.

Valverde was also named the best player of the match. One of his impressive records is creating all five of Real's significant chances.
"The coach's message remains the same. He asks us to control the ball, quickly regain possession when we lose it, and continue to attack. This breaks the opponent's mentality," he stated.
Meanwhile, Juventus' defeat resulted in no Italian teams reaching the quarter-finals of the 2025 Club World Cup. For Juventus Coach Igor Tudor, the consecutive losses to Manchester City and Real Madrid serve as a benchmark for improving the "Old Lady" squad in preparation for the 2025-2026 season.
"It's like we're at school against two teams of the highest level. It's a valuable experience to compare our quality with those teams and a lesson for moving forward," Tudor was quoted as saying by Tuttosport.
