JAKARTA, KOMPAS – After being questioned since the morning, the Corruption Eradication Commission, or KPK, detained the Secretary General of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle, or PDI-P, Hasto Kristiyanto. Hasto has been named a suspect in a bribery case involving the management of members of the 2019-2024 House of Representatives and obstruction of the investigation into the same case.
Kompas monitoring, Hasto left the investigator's examination room wearing an orange vest with his hands cuffed at around 18.00 WIB. When entering the press conference room at the KPK's Red and White Building, Jakarta, Hasto was seen smiling and shouting the word "freedom".
At a press conference, KPK Chairman Setyo Budiyanto stated that Hasto is a suspect in two cases, namely obstruction of investigation as outlined in the investigation warrant number Sprin.Dik/152/DIK.00/01/12/2024, dated December 23, 2024, and a bribery case involving the management of DPR members for the 2019-2024 period as stated in the investigation warrant number Sprin.Dik/153/DIK.00/01/12/2024, dated December 23, 2024.
Hasto, along with Harun Masiku and Saiful Bahri, is suspected of having given gifts or promises to a member of the General Elections Commission for the 2017-2022 period, Wahyu Setiawan. The bribe is alleged to have been given in connection with the appointment of an elected member of the House of Representatives for the 2019-2024 term through an interim replacement (PAW).
Meanwhile, regarding the obstruction of the investigation, it was revealed that during the KPK's sting operation on January 8, 2020, Hasto instructed Nur Hasan, the caretaker of the Rumah Aspirasi on Jalan Sutan Syahrir Number 12 A, which was commonly used as Hasto's private office, to call Harun Masiku and advise him to submerge his phone in water and immediately flee. Harun remains a fugitive of the KPK to this day.
Then, on June 6, 2024, before Hasto was questioned as a witness by the KPK, Hasto also instructed Kusnadi to dispose of the cellphone in Kusnadi's possession so that it would not be found by the KPK. Hasto even gathered several witnesses related to the Harun Masiku case and directed them not to provide truthful statements.
