NEW YORK, WEDNESDAY – The journey of Indonesian female tennis player, Janice Tjen, in the US Open Grand Slam has finally come to an end. The 23-year-old English player had to concede defeat to English tennis player Emma Raducanu, with a score of 2-6, 1-6 in a match that took place in New York on Wednesday (27/8/2025) evening Indonesian time.
The significant gap in world rankings between the two tennis players was evident in this match. Facing the 36th-ranked player in the world, Janice, who is ranked 149th, attempted to put up a fight, but her opponent proved to be too formidable.
This was immediately evident when Raducanu, who started the match by serving, quickly scored an ace. She earned two points before Janice was able to equalize the score. Unfortunately, Raducanu managed to finish the first game.

It was Janice's turn to serve, but Raducanu continued to maintain her advantage by breaking Janice's serve. Trailing 0-2, Janice attempted to mount a challenge to break Raducanu's serve in the third game. Janice briefly led 40-15, but Raducanu was able to equalize the points and subsequently thwart Janice's attempt to break her serve.
Trailing 0-3, Janice attempted to halt Raducanu's momentum in the next game. Serving, Janice was determined not to have her serve broken again. Ultimately, Janice managed to secure the fourth game, reducing the deficit to 1-3.
Raducanu won the fifth game again before in the sixth game, while holding serve, Janice managed to reduce the deficit to 2-4.

However, Janice's efforts to stem Raducanu's momentum were unsuccessful. The next two games were won by Raducanu, concluding the first set with a score of 6-2.
Entering the second set, Raducanu immediately took the first game, before taking a 2-0 lead after Janice's second double fault of the match broke her serve. Raducanu's run was unstoppable, quickly leading 5-0.
Janice was able to win the sixth game, but this only temporarily delayed Raducanu's victory. Janice's attempt to extend her run by breaking Raducanu's serve in the following sixth game was unsuccessful, thus ensuring her exit in the second round of her debut appearance at the US Open.

Raducanu's performance against Janice was indeed quite brilliant. She did not commit a single double fault compared to the two made by Janice. The 2021 US Open champion also recorded eight aces, in contrast to Janice's one.
After the match, Raducanu praised Janice, whom she regarded as a formidable opponent. "Janice is a dangerous opponent because she is capable of defeating seeded players in the first round," she said. (AFP)
