Oneway SS Coach TB Wahyudiansyah Leads BRI Indonesia LKG Team in Gothia Cup 2025

JAKARTA, KOMPAS - After undergoing several assessment processes covering performance and psychological aspects, the Kompas League U-14 Committee selected Oneway SS Coach, TB Wahyudiansyah, as the head coach of the LKG BRI Indonesia team that will compete in the Gothia Cup 2025. Wahyu has been entrusted with 28 players, which will be narrowed down to 18 players who will travel to Gothenburg, Sweden, this coming July.

Unlike the process of selecting the head coach for the Gothia Cup team in previous editions, the Kompas U-14 League Committee involved the Sports Psychology Association (IPO). As a result, six candidates for the position of head coach of the LKG BRI Indonesia team underwent an evaluation process on various psychological aspects related to coaching duties.

The assessment aspects include general intelligence, decision-making, achievement motivation, concentration, self-confidence, work systematics, emotional maturity, adaptability, and teamwork or communication. Based on the evaluation of these nine aspects, the IPO team led by IPO Secretary General Taru Guritna assessed that Wahyu meets the requirements to lead the LKG BRI Indonesia team in competing at the Gothia Cup, which is referred to as the world cup for children and teenagers.

The Director of the Kompas U-14 League, Emilius Caesar Alexey, stated that the Kompas U-14 League Committee selected Wahyu based on psychological assessments and evaluations conducted by the talent scouting team and Team 11 as the statistics team. Not only has his ability been proven by leading Oneway to temporarily sit in fourth place in the Kompas U-14 League Powered by BRI 2024-2025, but Wahyu also has extensive experience in leading youth teams in international events.

Wahyu is a coach of the Indonesian U-16 Student Team that won the Borneo Cup in Sabah, Malaysia, in 2017, and twice managed the team in the Gothia Cup China at the end of the 2010s.

"Our target is to become champions to complement our previous achievements of second place (2013) and third place (2018). This psychological assessment is expected to yield results that the Liga Kompas team has never brought home from the Gothia Cup before," said Caesar after announcing Wahyu's appointment in Jakarta, Tuesday (4/3/2025).

Caesar stated that Wahyu is expected to lead the training program for the LKG BRI Indonesia team starting next week. A total of 28 top players from the Kompas League U-14 2024-2025, projected to compete in the Gothia Cup, have already begun training since March 3 at the Ciracas Sports Hall Stadium, East Jakarta.

’Coach’Wahyu was given the authority to organize the training program to determine the match training plan for the LKG BRI Indonesia team. In April, the head coach must determine the 18 players that we will register for the 2025 Gothia Cup.

Although the 28 players who passed the three stages of selection were determined by Team 11 and the Kompas U-14 League talent scout team, Caesar emphasized that the Gothia Cup squad consisting of 18 players would be determined by Wahyu.

"Coach Wahyu was given the authority to organize the training program to determine the LKG BRI Indonesia team's match training plan. In April, the head coach must determine the 18 players that we will register for the 2025 Gothia Cup," said Caesar.

After Wahyu, the Kompas U-14 League Committee also completed the LKG BRI Indonesia coaching staff with an assistant coach and team manager. The assistant coach candidate is one of five other coaches who have gone through the assessment process.

Of the 28 players who have been selected in the temporary list of the LKG BRI team or the "Kera Sakti" squad, Wahyu assessed that there is abundant stock in the midfielder position. Even so, Wahyu does not have a problem with that condition to form a team according to his needs.

He does not even plan to add players to join the training camp. According to Wahyu, the 28 players selected by Team 11 are the best young footballers available in the Kompas U-14 League this season.

"I am sure the players that have been prepared by the talent scout team have the potential to become a strong squad. I will choose players who can play in several positions. They must be able to perform well in two or even four different positions," said Wahyu.

Revelation needs equal squad depth as the Gothia Cup matches will take place twice in one day. That requires players to be ready to perform whenever and wherever needed.

In order to give new positions to players, Wahyu will pay attention to the abilities and playing styles of each individual. Not only changing positions, such as center backs to full backs or attacking midfielders to wingers, Wahyu also has the opportunity to change the role of players from defense to attack or vice versa.

"In addition, I will boost the physical condition of the players. I also try to unite the players. I want every player to be a star because of their game and attitude, not because they feel like a star," he said.
