President Prabowo Appoints Brian Yuliarto as Minister of Education, Science and Technology

JAKARTA, KOMPAS - The reshuffling of the Red and White Cabinet personnel occurred for the first time after 100 days of the Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka administration. The position of Minister of Higher Education and Science and Technology, previously held by Satryo Soemantri Brodjonegoro, has now been handed over to Brian Yuliarto.

President Prabowo inaugurated Brian Yuliarto at the State Palace, Jakarta, on Wednesday (19/2/2025). Also present at the inauguration were Vice President Gibran Rakabumingraka, Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian, Minister of National Development Planning Rachmat Pambudy, and Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Pratikno.

Brian will replace Satryo Sumantri Brodjonegoro in holding the position of Minister of Higher Education and Science Technology. Brian is listed as a professor at ITB from the Faculty of Industrial Technology with research related to nano and quantum technology.

Brian earned a bachelor's degree from ITB and completed a master's and doctoral program at the University of Tokyo.

He also became the recipient of the Habibie Prize 2024. The award was given in the engineering science category because he was considered to have developed nanomaterial-based sensor technology useful for detecting hazardous gases and pollutants, diagnosing cancer and hepatitis, as well as developing medical biosensor technology.

At the same event, the President also inaugurated several other officials. They are the Head of BPKP, the Head of BSSN, the Head of BPS, and the Head of BSSN.

The Head of the Financial and Development Supervisory Agency (BPKP) who was inaugurated is Muhammad Yusuf Ateh. Ateh will continue his position as the Head of BPKP.

In addition, Ateh will now be accompanied by a Deputy Head of BPKP. This position will be held by Agustina Arumsari, who previously served as Deputy Head of BPKP for Investigation.

The Head of the National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN) is held by Retired Lieutenant General Nugroho Sulistyo Budi. Nugroho previously served as Chief Inspector of the National Intelligence Agency.

The Head of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) will again be held by Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti. Previously, the woman who is often called Winny served as Deputy for Economics at BPS and became Acting Head of BPS replacing Suhariyanto. Winny is also accompanied by Soni Hari Budi Utomo as Deputy Head of BPS.
