JAKARTA, KOMPAS — The Corruption Eradication Commission or KPK is still awaiting the official notification letter regarding the amnesty for the Secretary-General of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle or PDI-P, Hasto Kristiyanto, from President Prabowo Subianto. This document is required as a basis for releasing Hasto.
Thus, as of this afternoon, Hasto remains in custody as a court detainee placed in the KPK Branch Detention Center at the Red and White Building in Jakarta. Nevertheless, Hasto was observed leaving the detention center on Friday (1/8/2025) morning. His departure, lasting nearly two hours, was reported to be for the treatment of his eyes.
Based on Kompas' monitoring at the scene, Hasto exited the detention center at 9:04 a.m. WIB. He made no comment to the waiting media crew and immediately entered the prepared prison van. He was taken to the Jakarta Eye Center (JEC) eye specialist clinic.

At around 10:45 AM WIB, the group returned to the Red and White Building. Hasto, still wearing the same detention vest and sunglasses, was immediately escorted back into the detention center. In addition to the KPK detention guards, Hasto appeared to be accompanied by a legal representative.
KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo, when confirmed, affirmed that Hasto was released from detention to seek medical treatment. This agenda had been planned well in advance before the amnesty from the President.
"The medical treatment had been scheduled well in advance and had received a court order," he said.
Regarding Hasto's release, the KPK is still waiting. "Concerning the release of Brother HK (Hasto Kristiyanto), the follow-up to the amnesty granted by the President, we are still awaiting the letter for further action," said Budi.

Previously, KPK Chairman Setyo Budiyanto had responded to the granting of amnesty for Hasto. According to him, the granting of amnesty is a prerogative authority of the president as regulated in the constitution.
"That is the president's authority according to the 1945 Constitution," he said in a written statement, Thursday (31/7/2025) evening.
It is known that Hasto was sentenced to 3.5 years in prison and a fine of IDR 250 million, with a subsidiary of three months' imprisonment, by the panel of judges of the Jakarta Corruption Court on July 25. Hasto was proven to be involved in the bribery case concerning the replacement of members of the DPR for Harun Masiku.
However, on Thursday (31/7/2025) evening, the Deputy Chairman of the DPR from the Gerindra Party faction, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, stated that the DPR has approved President Prabowo's request to grant abolition for Tom Lembong, amnesty for the Secretary General of PDI-P Hasto Kristiyanto, and 1,115 other convicts. The granting of amnesty is said to be for the sake of reconciliation.
Meanwhile, the Spokesperson for the Central Jakarta District Court, Andi Saputra, in his statement, emphasized that President Prabowo's decision is a constitutional right that must be respected.
"We respect the decision of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Mr. Prabowo Subianto, regarding the decision to grant abolition and amnesty. We appreciate this as it is part of the constitutional authority of the head of state as stipulated in the 1945 Constitution," he stated.
As a judicial institution, we will implement the legal consequences of this decision in accordance with the provisions of applicable laws and regulations.
Andi added that, procedurally, this decision fulfilled the constitutional mandate because it involved consideration from the House of Representatives. Thus, the checks and balances mechanism between state institutions was in place.
"As a judicial institution, we will implement the legal consequences of the decision in accordance with the applicable laws and regulations," said Andi.
The court also invites all parties to respect this decision as part of the efforts to build justice and peace in the life of the nation and state.
