After several years of playing together on the green field, Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez are once again collaborating to establish a professional football club in Uruguay, Suarez's home country. The club was founded by Suarez in 2018, and now Messi has been invited to help develop the club.
In a video recording uploaded to his social media account on Tuesday (27/5/2025), Suarez stated that the club was originally named Deportivo LS. The joining of Messi led to the club's name changing to Deportivo LSM. LSM is an abbreviation for Luis Suarez Messi.
Deportivo LSM will begin their journey in Division 4 of the Uruguayan League. The road is still long for Deportivo LSM to reach the highest tier of the Uruguayan League.
"Deportivo LS is a family dream that started in 2018. We have grown to 3,000 members. I want to offer Uruguayan football, a place that I love and where I grew up as a child, as an opportunity and a tool for teenagers and children to develop," said Suarez.

"We hope that this club can start competing in the Uruguay Football Association system. This is a very exciting goal for us and a step forward for me and my family," added Suarez.
Suarez and Messi have been good friends since they were together at FC Barcelona for six seasons, and now they are playing together again for Inter Miami for two seasons. Both are preparing with Inter Miami to participate in the Club World Cup next June.
"I am proud and happy that you chose me (as a partner). I hope to provide everything I can to help this club continue to grow and, above all, to be by your side in this matter," said Messi, who was seated next to Suarez, in the video recording.
It is not yet clear what role Messi will play in the project. However, local media reports that Messi will be a partner. Local media also reported that former Uruguay national team player and former Inter Milan player, Alvaro Recoba, will be the team's coach.

The announcement of the project launch was made on Instagram, which immediately gained 40,000 followers within just two hours of the account's creation.
Suarez and his family opened an 80.957-hectare sports complex in Ciudad de la Costa, just outside the city of Montevideo, the capital of Uruguay. There are many sports facilities in the area. The complex also features a stadium with synthetic grass, which can accommodate 1,400 spectators.
