BANDUNG, KOMPAS - The President of the United States, Donald Trump, announced a list of base tariffs and import duties for Indonesia reaching 32 percent yesterday, Thursday. This policy has impacted the plan to export Wanoja arabica coffee from Bandung, West Java, to the United States, which has been temporarily suspended.
The Wanoja Arabica coffee product is located in the Kamojang Valley, situated on the border of Bandung Regency and Garut Regency. This coffee is produced by the Wanoja Farmers Group and the Wanoja Coffee MSME.
A total of 108 farmers and more than 97 Wanoja Coffee MSME workers are involved in the production of Wanoja arabica coffee. The cultivation area for Wanoja arabica coffee spans 108 hectares.
Wanoja Coffee Director Satrea Amambi in Bandung on Friday (4/4/2025) said that his party had to temporarily suspend exports of roasted beans or roasted coffee beans to the United States. This effort is to first study Trump's policy and its impact on the operational costs of sending coffee beans there.

He explained that Wanoja Coffee sent 300 kilograms of roasted beans to the United States over the past year. The price of roasted beans sold to importers in America reached 20 US dollars per kilogram or Rp 331,200 at the current exchange rate.
"Trump's policies certainly have an impact on our revenues. Fortunately, the market for Wanoja coffee products is more dominant in Europe and Saudi Arabia," stated Satrea.
Satrea said that the plan to expand the shipment of 600 kilograms of green beans to the United States this year had to be postponed. Because, his party is still discussing changes in shipping costs with prospective importers after the import duty policy of up to 32 percent.
It is known that Wanoja Coffee's production reached approximately 80 tons by the end of 2024. Around 63 percent of the total production was exported to several countries, including Japan, the Netherlands, Germany, Saudi Arabia, and the United States.

"We hope for support from both the central and regional governments following the implementation of import duties to the United States of up to 32 percent, such as tax relaxation. The goal is to ensure that export activities are not hindered by high operational costs," expressed Satrea.
Meanwhile, Head of the West Java Investment and One-Stop Integrated Service Agency (DPMPTSP), Dedi Taufik said that his party will hold a meeting with related agencies such as plantations, industry and trade. This is to discuss efforts after the 32 percent import duty policy to the United States.
According to him, the West Java Provincial Government will prepare various ways to strengthen MSMEs and improve human resource competencies. In this way, it will produce quality export products to other countries such as China and Japan.
"Trump's policy may have a wide impact. The government's task is to prepare competent MSMEs and human resources to facilitate regulations so that the investment climate is not affected after the policy," said Dedi.
