Arsenal's inconsistency between midweek and weekend must be addressed immediately. The transition of "The Gunners" from Bernabeu to Portman Road raises significant questions.

IPSWICH, SATURDAY - The Arsenal squad will experience an extreme transition this weekend. After enjoying the grandeur of the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium in the middle of the week, they are now awaited at Portman Road Stadium, the modest home of Ipswich Town. From this transition, Arsenal's consistency will be tested.
Bernabeu, the home of Real Madrid, is one of the grandest stadiums in the world with a capacity of over 80,000 seats. The Arsenal players were very enthusiastic during their visit for the Champions League quarter-finals. "It feels different when experienced in person, not like on television. There are so many (spectators)," said 18-year-old defender Myles Lewis-Skelly.
We have demonstrated that we can compete with any team in all competitions; now the next stage is consistency. We must quickly shift our focus to Ipswich.
Only about three days later, on Sunday (20/4/2025) at 20:00 WIB, "Si Meriam" will visit Portman Road, which has a capacity of only 30,000 seats. The stadium ranks among the top five with the smallest spectator capacity in the English League, feeling like a world apart when compared to Bernabeu.
The audience capacity also reflects the quality difference between the two teams. Arsenal visited the Bernabeu to challenge the defending Champions League titleholders. Meanwhile, Martin Odegaard and his teammates visited Portman Road to face the relegated bottom team, Ipswich.
For Arsenal Manager Mikel Arteta, the victory at Bernabeu has elevated the level of the club. However, it will be in vain if the momentum does not continue. "We have shown that we can compete with any team in all competitions; now the next stage is consistency. We must quickly shift our focus to Ipswich," he stated.

Inconsistency has become Arsenal's biggest problem lately. They are struggling to face two competitions simultaneously. When the squad is rotated, the team's performance drops drastically. This is what led to them being held to consecutive draws by two mediocre teams, Brentford and Everton, amidst the hustle and bustle of preparations against Madrid.
The result has caused Arteta's team to lose direction in the title race. They are 13 points behind league leaders Liverpool with six matches remaining. If they do not want to ensure Liverpool's championship this week, Arsenal must win at Portman Road.
However, instead of pursuing a championship that is nearly impossible, Arsenal needs victories to fend off the challenge from other teams looking to seize the second position, such as Newcastle United (59 points). The point gap for Arsenal is closer to seventh-placed Aston Villa (54 points) than to Liverpool.
"We know how difficult the match will be. They are a very well-organized team. What (coach) Kieran McKenna and his staff have done is remarkable. They always manage to pose many problems for the opposing team every week. So we will prepare for that," Arteta explained.
Ipswich, ranked 18th, can no longer escape the clutches of the relegation zone. However, Liam Delap and his teammates have not lost their motivation at all. Instead, they are making the most of the remaining time in the top division, providing the best entertainment for the fans.
It has been proven that Ipswich's trend is actually on the rise lately. They have just held Chelsea to a 2-2 draw away from home. McKenna promised a similar intense battle this weekend. "We will look for ways to press high so that they (Arsenal) are uncomfortable. We want to disrupt their rhythm," said the coach.

The last time the two teams met at the Emirates Stadium, in December 2024, Ipswich displayed a fairly solid defensive scheme. They only lost 0-1 despite the match being completely dominated by Arsenal. The decisive goal was scored by striker Kai Havertz, who will be absent due to a thigh injury.
Arsenal needs to be wary of surprises from the individual performances of the opposing team. The players of Ipswich will strive to showcase their abilities for the remainder of the season in hopes of being noticed by other English League teams. One of them is Delap, who has scored two goals in the last three matches. The 22-year-old forward is being monitored by Chelsea and Manchester United.
The rotation in the Arsenal squad is worth anticipating. Arteta has replaced five key players in the last two league matches. The changes in the squad are unlikely to be as extensive as before, as the Champions League semifinal will not take place until April 30. Arsenal will only compete twice before facing Paris Saint-Germain.
Arsenal's defensive midfielder Thomas Partey is confirmed to be unavailable for the first semifinal due to a suspension from accumulated yellow cards. Questions have arisen as to whether Arteta will use the match against Ipswich as a simulation for playing without Partey by experimenting with a new squad composition. The manager has not ruled out this possibility.
"We need to find balance (in the midfield). Understanding (among the players) is the top priority. We must ensure that the players are comfortable with their positions and with each other to perform in big matches. However, before that, we want to win the Premier League matches first," concluded Arteta. (AP/REUTERS)
