JAKARTA, KOMPAS — The Indonesian women's doubles pair, Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti/Lanny Tria Mayasari, are in the process of competing in tournaments at a higher level than Super 300. With the competition in women's doubles becoming increasingly balanced, the opportunities for Fadia/Lanny to advance and achieve success are also widening.
Since competing together in October 2024, the 2025 Indonesia Open at Istora Gelora Bung Karno, Senayan, Jakarta, has become the second Super 1000 level tournament for Fadia/Lanny. Fadia/Lanny marked their debut at the Indonesia Open as a pair with a victory over Go Pei Kee/Teoh Mei Xing (Malaysia), 19-21, 21-16, 21-19, on Wednesday (4/6/2025).
Together with their previous partners, Fadia and Lanny have both experienced competition in the Indonesia Open before. Fadia's highest achievement in the Indonesia Open was reaching the quarter-finals in 2022 and 2023 while still partnered with Apriyani Rahayu. Meanwhile, Lanny was eliminated in the first round when partnered with Ribka Sugiarto in the 2023 edition.
However, after competing together since October 2024, Fadia and Lanny had to fight through lower-level tournaments, namely the Indonesia International Challenge, and emerged as champions. Following that, they became finalists in the Indonesia Masters Super 100.
Fadia/Lanny then gradually rose to a higher level. The 24-year-old and 23-year-old pair performed exceptionally well while winning the Thailand Masters 2025.
Based on the BWF tournament structure, Super 300 falls into the second tier of level 5. Above it are levels 1 to 4, namely the BWF Finals, Super 1000, Super 750, and Super 500.
Winning the Thailand Masters, which is a Super 300 level tournament, marks the starting point for Fadia/Lanny to elevate their competition. Prior to the Indonesia Open, Fadia/Lanny participated in Super 500 level tournaments, namely the Malaysia Masters and the Thailand Open. Their best result was reaching the quarter-finals in Malaysia.
"If asked what level we are currently at, honestly, we are still adapting to reach levels 1000, 750, and 500. Because competing in the first round alone is not easy against the opponents," said Fadia after facing Go Pei Kee/Teoh Mei Xing.
In the match, Fadia/Lanny indeed appeared to struggle to break free from pressure and achieve victory. In fact, based on their performance this year, they are superior with 13 wins compared to 9 losses out of a total of 18 matches.

After losing the first game, Fadia/Lanny attempted to seize momentum early in the second game by taking a lead of up to five points. Lanny stated that they took advantage of the wind blowing towards their opponents to launch their attacks.
However, Fadia/Lanny continue to struggle when facing relentless attacks from their opponents. They often find it difficult to return the shuttlecock perfectly or are unable to defend against it at all.
In the decisive game, after almost always trailing, Fadia/Lanny finally turned the situation around with a more aggressive play that troubled their opponents. From a score of 15-14, they surged ahead to a five-point lead at 19-14. In this situation, both Fadia and Lanny made numerous mistakes that allowed their opponents to narrow the gap.
Lanny acknowledged that they became tense when reaching critical points. However, they then attempted to play more boldly in order to finish the match with a victory. "So (in the next match) we need to correct the mistakes made earlier, especially avoiding errors that often lead to self-inflicted setbacks," said Lanny.

A similar sentiment was expressed by Fadia. When reaching a higher level, especially at the Super 1000 level, Fadia stated that they must play more calmly and strongly. Not only that, but they also need to enhance their motivation to win.
Moreover, Fadia stated that the competition in the women's doubles sector is becoming increasingly balanced, making every possibility feasible. What Fadia/Lanny experienced at the Thailand Open and the Malaysia Open Super 1000 can validate her opinion.
While competing at the Thailand Open, Fadia/Lanny managed to defeat the women's doubles ranked fourth in the world, Pearly Tan/Thinaah Muralitharan, once again. This marked the second time they have triumphed over the pair, following their victory at the Malaysia Open earlier this year.
The current world number one women's doubles pair, Liu Sheng Shu/Tan Ning (China), also surprisingly lost to the fifth-ranked women's doubles pair, Rin Iwanaga/Kie Nakanishi (Japan), in the semifinals of the 2025 Singapore Open. This means that there is no women's doubles pair that is truly dominant in the competition, thus opening up opportunities for anyone to rise to the next level and achieve success, including Fadia/Lanny.

According to Fadia, women's doubles teams from other countries, whether Malaysia, Thailand, or Taiwan, can also pose a threat. Instead of focusing on the increasingly level competition, Fadia wants to first find the best playing pattern with Lanny.
"We take lessons from every match, whether we win or lose. We also need to understand where we won and where we lost," said Fadia.
"Therefore, we are not focusing on specific athletes, such as Liu Sheng Shu/Tan Ning. Instead, we are trying to find a playing pattern that suits us so that we can be on par with them," he stated.
Another Indonesian women's doubles pair, Arlya Nabila Thesa Munggaran/Az Zahra Ditya Ramadhani, succumbed to the representatives from Hong Kong, Nga Ting Yeung/Pui Lam Yeung, with scores of 21-11, 24-22. Although they ultimately lost, Arlya/Az Zahra displayed a spirit of perseverance and fierce resistance in the second game. (REB/IYA)
