Prabowo Wants KIM Plus to Become Permanent Coalition

BOGOR, KOMPAS - President Prabowo Subianto invited the elite political party members supporting his administration, who are part of the Koalisi Indonesia Maju or KIM Plus, to form a permanent coalition that supports his administration until 2029.

All parties in KIM Plus have declared their readiness. However, to support Prabowo again in the 2029 Presidential Election (Pilpres), several parties have not yet taken a stance.

All the leaders of the KIM Plus political parties attended Prabowo's gathering invitation at Prabowo's residence in Hambalang, Bogor, West Java, on Friday (14/2/2025). KIM Plus is a coalition of parties supporting Prabowo in the 2024 Presidential Election, including Gerindra, Golkar, the National Mandate Party, and the Democratic Party, plus three parties that did not support Prabowo in the 2024 Presidential Election. The three parties are the National Awakening Party (PKB), the Nasdem Party, and the Prosperous Justice Party.

Also attending the gathering upon invitation were members of the Red and White Cabinet, as well as the elected regional heads supported by KIM Plus in the 2024 Regional Head Elections (Pilkada). This gathering took place behind closed doors for approximately three hours.

After the event, the Chairman of PKB Muhaimin Iskandar revealed that during the gathering, President Prabowo expressed his desire for KIM Plus to become a permanent coalition. Prabowo considers this very important because the government needs a strong coalition's solidity to face various national challenges in the future.

"The point is to strengthen the coalition. Mr. Prabowo offers a permanent coalition. Mr. Prabowo asks for unity to be the main key to government," said Muhaimin.

PKB also welcomed Prabowo's invitation to form a permanent coalition. According to Muhaimin, for the acceleration of development, the government coalition must be strong and remain united.

In fact, the Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment stated that the permanent coalition could be valid indefinitely. However, when asked whether PKB would support Prabowo running again in the 2029 Presidential Election, Muhaimin did not answer. "Thank you," he said briefly while leaving the reporters.

Prabowo's desire to form a permanent coalition was also expressed by several party elites who attended the KIM Plus gathering with Prabowo. Deputy Chairman of the Golkar Party, Idrus Marham, for example. He said that all KIM Plus parties have an understanding to form a permanent coalition until 2029.

"Basically, we have thought about a permanent coalition. All parties are solid, have one vision, loyal to Mr. Prabowo," said Idrus.

Secretary General of the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) Raja Juli Antoni also confirmed. In fact, for PSI, this coalition should be continued until the 2029 presidential election. PSI also stated that it is ready to support Prabowo to run again in the 2029 presidential election.

Meanwhile, according to several parties within the coalition, it is still too early to discuss the 2029 Presidential Election. Take the Nasdem Party for example. The party that only joined the KIM after the 2024 Presidential Election considered it too early to discuss supporting the 2029 Presidential Election. This is because the government has only been running for about four months.

"It's still too early. This politics, let alone what we haven't talked about in 2029, which sometimes even in the mouth can jump out. Right, the message from (Nasdem General Chairman) Mr. Surya Paloh to us, from the cup to the lips the dynamics are very high," said Nasdem Party DPP Chairman Willy Aditya.

But at least, according to Willy, KIM Plus' current focus is to encourage and support government programs to be successful. "The KIM Plus coalition party really supports, totally, how these pro-people policies can be executed smoothly," he said.

The Deputy Chairman of the Democratic Party, Benny K Harman, said something similar.

Democrats agree to strengthen the coalition until 2029 because the challenges ahead are not easy. However, when asked whether Democrats will support Prabowo again in the 2029 presidential election, it is not yet certain at this time.

"Not yet, we will see (the interests of strengthening the coalition in supporting the government until 2029) first," said Benny.

Deputy Chairman of the PKS Syura Council Ahmad Heryawan also said that there has been no stance from PKS on whether or not it will support Prabowo in the 2029 Presidential Election. This is because the 2029 Presidential Election is still far away. "The party's stance, of course, is not now, the stance will be closer to that," he said.

He also emphasized that in today's meeting there was no request from Prabowo for PKS to provide support to him in the 2029 presidential election. "What was announced was that he would run again in 2029. That was announced. As for what will happen later, we will wait," he added.

However, Ahmad Heryawan continued, PKS as a member of KIM Plus is committed together with other parties in the internal coalition to support Prabowo's government until 2029.

In the Extraordinary Congress (KLB) of the Gerindra Party at the Hambalang Complex, Bogor Regency, West Java, Thursday (2/13/2025), the congress not only decided to re-appoint Prabowo Subianto as the general chairman and chairman of the party's advisory board. The congress also asked for Prabowo's willingness to be re-nominated for the next five years.

"And finally, the congress asked him to be willing to be nominated as a presidential candidate from the Gerindra Party (in the 2029 Presidential Election). Regarding this, he stated God willing, but he asked to be given time to complete his presidential duties, fulfill his promises to the people," said Gerindra Secretary General Ahmad Muzani, yesterday.
