TEHRAN, SATURDAY—The United States and Israel attacked Iran with sea and air missiles. Some of the missiles hit a school for girls.
The US-Israel attack was launched on Saturday morning (28/2/2026). In Minab, a city in southern Iran, one of the missiles struck a school for girls. As a result, at least 51 people were killed and 60 others were injured.
Iranian media, IRNA, reported that there were 170 people in the school when the missile exploded. The class had just begun when the missile detonated. The number of casualties is feared to continue to rise. Rescue operations are still ongoing.
The report of victims from the school is the first information regarding the casualties from the US-Israel attack on Iran. It is unknown whose missile detonated at the school.
The attack was launched amid Oman's efforts to mediate between the US and Iran to avoid war. In recent weeks, Oman's Foreign Minister Badr Hamad Al-Busaidi has represented his country in the negotiations.

"I am very disappointed. Active and serious negotiations have once again been undermined. Neither the interests of the United States nor the goals of global peace are being well served by this. And I pray for the innocent people who will suffer. I urge the United States not to become further involved. This is not your war," he wrote on social media.
Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Hamid Ghanbari stated that the timing of the attack is very concerning. The attack during negotiations undermines trust in peace efforts.
Several media outlets from the US and Israel reported that the attacks were launched by the US-Israel from the sea and air. Around Iran, there are several US missile destroyers. In various Middle Eastern countries, the US has also deployed a range of fighter jets.
"The Iranian military will consider the origin and source of US-Israeli military operations, as well as actions to counter Israeli defense operations, as legitimate targets," said Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi to several of his colleagues in the region.
So far, Iran has confirmed that it has targeted US bases in Qatar, Kuwait, Iraq, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia. Reports from these countries indicate that Iranian missiles and drones have targeted US bases in those nations.
"Al-Salem air base was attacked by a number of ballistic missiles. This morning, Kuwaiti air defenses successfully repelled them," the Kuwaiti Ministry of Defense said in a statement.
In Bahrain, Iran attacked the command headquarters of the US Fifth Fleet. Iran used unmanned aerial vehicles in the attack. The target was an early warning radar. The type of radar remains unknown.
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claims that targets in Qatar include the AN/FPS-132 early warning radar. This missile primarily tracks the movement of missiles and various other war devices. Its range is said to extend up to 5,000 kilometers. (AP/AFP/REUTERS)
